Virgina Turbett’s photography is a deep and thorough dive into punk and alternative music scenes of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Virginia’s first photo assignment was to photograph the Sex Pistols while shooting their Pretty Vacant music video. Turbett would spend the next ten years photographing live music, the fans and fashion of the punk, heavy metal, mod, new romantic, reggae, 2-tone and electro-pop scenes. Her work has been published in Sounds, Smash Hits, The Face and ID publications. Traveling across the US and Europe, she was invited to work with hundreds of bands and solo artists, including The Clash, Blondie, Iggy Pop, Prince, U2, Andy Warhol, Frank Zappa, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, The Jam, Madness, David Bowie and Duran Duran. Virginia’s photography also includes an archive of social reporting work that focuses on areas suffering from deprivation, unemployment, and areas affected by post-industrial economic difficulties. She also covered many political events such as Rock Against Racism, Right to Work and other marches/demonstrations. Fans of Ska-Punk, two-tone, music nostalgia, heroes of music, honest photography of great artists, indie bands and music history will love these designs!
